Bug Description

Binary package hint: gnome-disk-utility

When I boot I get a notification about a bad disk, and that notification is an old style popup with an OK/Cancel button. Should this not use a new notify-osd style notification? Screenshot attached.

I agree this doesn't make much sense currently. It probably shouldn't be a notification at all though, as that could expire whilst the user is away from the machine. It should probably rather be a proper dialog window (perhaps with more useful actions on it too)

It's not that much of a problem if it expires whilst away from the computer for a couple of reasons:-

1) It appears immediately after login - every time - see bug 412152
2) It leaves an icon in the notification area which you can click to find out more. That icon is persistent.

The current dialog also mentions "Click the icon", but clicking the warning icon doesn't do anything. (It means the notification icon; but you have to know that).

And the title and icon aren't set correctly (they seem to be set to default values)

Karmic Alpha 6. I have had the notification area icon show up on 2 machines of three and on two separate disks on one of the machines. Two of those disks definitely showed S.M.A.R.T. problems though I've not yet checked the third. Apparently I missed the initial notification in all cases and multiple times. I cannot say the notification never appeared since it is transient, but I am suspicious. But that is not why I am adding to this report:

1) Clicking or right clicking on the notification area icon did nothing (which is wrong) in all cases but one,
2) In one case an installation seemed to be stalled (probably due to the bad disk) and after multiple attempts to [left & right] on the icon, a S.M.A.R.T. report appeared in a new window and the system was totally frozen. After 15 minutes I finally had to turn the power off and on to regain control of that machine. It was an IBM Think Centre model 8183-34U, 2.8 GHz P4, 1.5 GB memory and it was a 40GB WD drive. I was able to restart and got the install to complete but the drive is now scrapped so don't have specifics.

Travis, could you look at changing this one to use no actions in notifications for lucid?
