Bug Description

I'm running 20.04 beta amd64 Desktop from a USB stick of the live ISO.

I opened Disks (gnome-disks) and it sees all my drives, but it won't show SMART stats on my NVME drive (Samsung SSD 970 EVO Plus 500GB). The SMART menu item is greyed out. It works fine on other drives.

The NVME has SMART support; it works fine with smartctl -a /dev/nvme0n1 for example. (Though smartctl is not in this live ISO, I have apt-get installed it at another time and tried it; and
it works fine in the Ubuntu 18.04 that is installed on this machine.)

I've attached a screencast showing the failure.

Thank you for your bug report, indeed that's a known issue, see upstream report
https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-disk-utility/-/issues/50
which requires udisks work, see https://github.com/storaged-project/udisks/issues/386

I confirm this bug. I am not able to get any smart data from my NVME, which btw is my boot drive. This is NOT a low importance bug, please change to high importance, as it may lead to loss of critical data. The user should be able to know the SMART data and health of his/her NVME drive.

I am wondering why HDsentinel for Linux is able to read SMART DATA and not the gnome-disk utility. See attached image

The current date is MAR 2022.

I have connected a mixture of disks, NVMe, SSD and two mechanical hard drives. All have the Smart Data menu grayed out.
Using smartctl -a works awesome (it reports nvme and ssd smart data too).
I reinstalled gnome-disks but same behaviour. I run it as root, same behaviour.

So it is a bug in gnome-disks.

Got two samsung NVMe. Can't get smart info for either of them from gnome disks. `smartctl` works fine.

The bug is still present.

Does the issue come from snap?

@Roman Martin (ubuntupsyx) this issue with NVME SSD still isn't fixed in upstream gnome-disk-utility project, so it wouldn't be fixed in Ubuntu until this bug isn't fixed:
