Binary package hint: gnome-cups-manager
When adding a printer using HP Jetdirect (via gnome-cups-add), the default manufacturer should be HP. Currently it is ALPS, the first alphabetically.

The "HP JetDirect" entry in the gnome-cups-manager is misleading. This setting is for all TCP/AppSocket/Raw network printing devices. Nearly every network printer or printbox supports this mode, not only HP devices. Therefore we will not default the printer brand to HP.
