Bug Description

Binary package hint: gnome-cups-manager

I have a printer configured in CUPS, working o.k.

1. I go to System -> Administration -> Printers.
2. Right-click on the configured printer, and select Properties in the pop-up menu.
3. The printer properties dialog takes aprox. 9 seconds to appear.

The same problem appear with the following steps:

1. I go to System -> Administration -> Printers.
2. Double-click on the configured printer. The printer jobs window appears.
3. I select Printer -> Properties.
4. The printer properties dialog, again, takes aprox. 9 seconds to appear.

My PC is an AMD Athlon XP 2200+ (1800 MHz), with 512 MB RAM.

If I right-click on the printer, and choose "Properties", the context menu stays as if I haven't clicked, until the Printer Properties dialog eventually appears.

I believe the delay in displaying the properties is related to the amount of time it takes to build the list of available drivers as the delay is the same as when adding a new printer?
Would it be possible to cache the driver list so that this delay disappears of at least display the same dialog box when bringing up the printer properties as when adding a new printer so that the user doesn't think the click was ignored or the program has crashed.

We have changed the default print management system in Ubuntu from gnome-cups-manager to system-config-printer because g-c-m is no longer maintained. Please open a new bug against system-config-printer if you still have this problem with Gutsy or Hardy. Thanks!
