Bug Description

I tested today the "Detect LAN printers" from the "Global Settings" in
gnome-cups-manager, and then tried to use "New Printer". It takes a while until
the gnome-cups-add window loads and allows you to interact with. It takes 10
seconds (!!!) to load on my at-work dapper workstation.

This is an unreasonable amount of time to load, given my 3.3GHz + 1GB RAM setup,
IMHO (maybe there have been some changes in the LAN here that could cause that?
not sure..)

I will investigate more and attempt to find the source of this problem.

As reported in the duplicate bugs, the biggest problem is maybe that there is no progress/busy indication, so the user thinks something is wrong or keep clicking Add Printer.

My own investigation tells me that it is the communication with the cups server, downloading lists of all printer drivers and so on, that takes so much time.

With up to date dapper on a dual core 3.0 GHz with 2GB RAM it took almost 20 seconds on the first try today. Second try took only 5 seconds.

Just want to add that this problem is the same without selecting "Detect LAN printers", so it has not to do with the LAN, as suggested in the original description.
