Bug Description

Ubuntu 12.04 using Unity:

When you set the "Default Applications" these settings are not applied properly. For instance, I set "VLC media player" as the default for "Video" but when I double-click on any video file it gets opened by Totem instead.

Also the option "A Wine application", shown if Wine is installed, does nothing.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage. You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode.

To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/995906/+editstatus and add the package name in the text box next to the word Package.

Thank you for reporting this bug.

I can reproduce it too.
I've changed Totem for VLC and double-click on a video file. Totem is opened instead of VLC.

Output of "dpkg -l gnome-control-center":
    ii gnome-control-center 1:3.4.2-0ubuntu0.5

Version of ubuntu: Ubuntu 12.04.1 LTS

affects: ubuntu → gnome-control-center (Ubuntu)
Changed in gnome-control-center (Ubuntu):
status: New → Confirmed

Setting Gnome Mplayer to be the default video player doesn't do anything. Videos are still open in Totem when double-clicked.
