Bug Description

When I double clicked an mp3/wave file, I wanted it to open in another program other than Banshee

So I changed the default app in
system settings > system info > Default applications > Music
to Movie player.

Even though it is selected there, after a restart, the files still open in Banshee.
I eventually deleted Banshee, and it just opened in the next program on the list. - not Movie player.
Doesn't matter what I change it to, it still doesn't work.

This is not how you change default applications in Nautilus. I think the settings you are talking about are used only for things like Firefox. To change the deafult app in Nautilus 3.x you just need to right click go to properties and there is an "open with" tab.

Thanks- changing it in properties works 100%.

After playing around a little it appears that the settings as I first described seems to work for .ogg files in Nautilus but not mp3 or wav, which seems strange to me. But if that is what they intended then I guess this isn't a bug

Hmm, could be that these file types are not included under what is considered Music type for default apps as they can require third party libraries to play. This might need to be sent upstream.

Thanks a lot for reporting this, however since Banshee is due to be dropped from the default installation, this bug no longer constitutes a papercut.

More information on what constitutes a papercut may be found here https://wiki.ubuntu.com/PaperCut

Thanks for the feedback- however this doesn't appear to be a banshee error as far as I can tell.

After all the comments, let me sum up the bug/limitation (I havent yet established which)

when you try changing the default music app in
system settings > system info > Default applications > Music - it only effects .ogg files, not mp3/wave and other music file types.

But as the above posters pointed out, this may just be that ubuntu doesn't recognise 3rd party formats
