Binary package hint: gnome-control-center

System > Preferences > Preferred Applications > System

The default multimedia player is rhythmbox, which is not present on a default install. Double-clicking audio/video files opens totem.

I think this has been fixed in development - the default music player is Banshee according to that interface. This is correct.
