Bug Description

Binary package hint: unity

in Preferred Applications, i set Epiphany Browser as default webbrowser.
Yet all apps in Unity open http links in firefox. Even in firefox, i made sure that firefox is not selfchecking and not set as default browser. still the problem remains.

same thing goes for .mp3 files. they all play in Totem by default, when rhythmbox is the main music player in ubuntu, and rhythmbox is set as default player in Preferred Applications.

if Preferred Applications has no effect on Unity, then how can i manually set my default applications?
Gconf?

good point ;)

i mean Unity as more than just a dash, sidebar and a top panel. I mean
Unity as a desktop solution.

That's why i marked it related to unity..

The desktop solution needs a way of honoring the user's preferences.
Until now we have been using GNOME in Ubuntu, and GNOME had Preferred
Applications.

I'm not sure Preferred Applications is any longer part of the new Ubuntu
desktop environment Unity.. is it?

i don't think so..
bug 670128 handles Firefox and Chromium, this here is about how "Preferred Applications" is not honored at all.
Totem and Rhythmbox for example, also not.
