Bug Description

Binary package hint: gnome-control-center

I am using Ubuntu 9.10. It is updated and here is my gnome-control-center release:
ii gnome-control-center 1:2.28.1-0ubuntu1

I don't konow if there is any other way to configure GDM on Karmic. I used that method:

gksudo -u gdm dbus-launch gnome-appearance-properties

Now, if you do that you can configure GDM but this brings some accesssibilty applets to notification area on next login.

Heartsmagic,
yes it does, but you can easily get rid of them by selecting from the menu:
System -> Preferences -> Keyboard -> Accessibility
and by unticking the "Accessibility features can be toggled with keyboard shortcuts"
and rebooting.

Oh, Harry thank you so much. Now, my panel is cleaner :) But I think this problem still remains as a bug :)
By the way there should be some other ways to configure GDM, but I know this issue isn't the topic of this bug. Maybe somebody already have suggested that on Brainstorm.

Yes this is reproducible.

Necessary steps are,
Give the command:
gksudo -u gdm dbus-launch gnome-appearance-properties
and configure GDM.

This checks the "Accessibility features can be toggled with keyboard shortcuts" option every time in System -> Preferences -> Keyboard -> Accessibility.

If you can't see the accesibilty applets in the panel, just log out and re-login.

Just bakcground picture. But now, whenever i open the configuration utilty the problem occures again. No change at all, just opening the configuration utily is enough for that. By the way i am coming from an beta release, not RC.

I can confirm this. Happened to me too. If I clicked the icon in the Notification Area and checked any of the options, my overall GDM theme would change to either Redmond or Raleigh. I forgot which one it is exactly. It happened to me yesterday. I have 9.10 with all updates installed. I had to logout and log back in to bring the theme back to normal. The change that I made to the GDM Login Screen was the controls.

(What I mean by saying GDM is the "Controls" you change when customizing a theme.)

That configuration dialog is deprecated in GNOME3 and Oneiric so closing the bug, feel free to open new bugs about other issues you might find though
