Bug Description

Maybe in "System" -> "Preferences" -> "Appearance" -> "Visual Effects" a faded out Compiz option should be present? Also, what happened to the old thing that was their when Compiz was installed (also, if implemented) the faded out option could become unfaded out or somesuch)?

After the install of Compiz I mean.

About a year ago when I would install Compiz I would see a Compiz option (link to the package) in the "System" -> "Preferences" -> "Appearance" -> "Visual Effects" area. This is now gone. Why? That is my question; if confused.

you mean the configure option you get when installing simple-ccsm now?

This looks REALLY stupid (and I have no graphics on since I have been playing a lot of StarCraft recently - it lags it a tiny bit with graphics).

However the Compiz option (the one I added in) used to be there...

This is how it currently looks.

Of course I just made up the wording however I hope now you understand what I am talking about...

did you install simple-ccsm as suggested before in comments?

Looks alright. That should come with Compiz so users know how to use Compiz.

Sebastien Bacher (seb128) wrote :

There is no need to configure crack option to use compiz, not installing it is indeed a choice because most users tweaking their option manage to get a broken configuration because many of the things you can tweak are buggy and it's better to not change those

How can adding simple-ccsm into Compiz result in a broken Compiz? It works flawlessly, explains Compiz better, and integrates Compiz with Ubuntu much better. My opinion however - I am not a developer.

Thanks for the package name in any case.

Sebastien Bacher (seb128) wrote :

simple-ccsm doesn't break the configuration but allow users to enable lot of not tested option which will not be as stable as the default set and lead to issue and lead to think that ubuntu is buggy, so maybe simple-ccsm should be shipped by default but the options should be in an universe binary not installed so users can't enable random untested effects and blame it on ubuntu
