Bug Description

Binary package hint: gnome-control-center

Using Ubuntu 7.10; GNOME Control center 1:2.20.1-0ubuntu1

I downloaded and installed VLC because I do not like Totem.

So, I've tried to put VLC as default multimedia player going to System -> Preferences -> Preferred Applications, switch default player to personal and writen "vlc" en the box.

I expected to see my wmv videos on VLC just only doing double click but I cannot.

By the way, I cannot put exaile as my default audio player either.

Thank you for your bug report. Did you try to change the association in the nautilus properties dialog on one video?

Changed in gnome-control-center:
assignee: nobody → desktop-bugs
importance: Undecided → Low
status: New → Incomplete

Fortunately I did the association (Googling for the solution) doing this:
- Right click on a video file
- "Properties"
- Go to "open with" tab
- Select VLC.
- ready, that video file type is associated to VLC. :)

The same for audio files.

But that makes another question: What is "System -> Preferences -> Preferred Applications -> Multimedia" used for?

the preferred application is ran when using the corresponding key on your keyboard, that is not optimal and a known issue, similar to bug #17081
