Bug Description

Binary package hint: compiz

I'm booting from a gutsy tribe 2 cd.

Starting or using gnome-appearance-properties (system->preferences->appearance) hangs everything.

After this "hang" I can still go to tty but any command I give hangs too (I can type without any problem but once I press enter it hangs).

I would guess this bug is related to Compiz Fuzion or X but I'm not sure.

Possible useful attachments I will attach prior to the bug occurring (gnome-appearance-properties not running) :
* ~/.xsession-errors, /var/log/Xorg.0.log, and the output of glxinfo and xdpyinfo.

Starting or using gnome-appearance-properties (system->preferences->appearance) *sometimes* hangs everything.

ubuntu_demon :
gnome-appearance-properties lives in gnome-control-center
since I can't be sure the "hang" is related to compiz I assigned the but to gnome-control-center

This time I was lucky and I was able to start gnome-appearance-properties enable extra desktop-effects and close gnome-appearance-properties again without a hang.

*all the logfiles I attached to this bugreport are of the same session and I didn't experience any hang this time*
