Bug Description

I am using Ubuntu 13.04 in macbook retina and everytime I suspend (or suspend closing) the notebook its screen stays completely black and I can heard the sound that it is still working, it does not suspend and it does not return from this state. I tried to click on all keyboard keys and some combinations as well as using the touchpad. Anyway, it really does not work after being suspended. It continues on (does not really suspend) and does not work so that I have to hold the turn off button and turn it on again. I think this is a main issue, and probably others are having the same problem (maybe not just with macs).

I have the same symptoms on my MacBook6,1 after upgrading to Ubuntu 13.04. Before that I was running 12.04 and suspend worked fine.

Additionally I can add: when manually suspending (by running pm-suspend, for example) the screen goes blank, but the white case LED does not start "breathing", like it would when suspended. Pressing any keys does not bring back the screen.

However, if I then close the lid, the white case LED turns off. *then* if I open the lid, the LED turns on, and I think the machine suspends (it's difficult to tell, because the screen is blank in both situations). It seems this is the opposite way around to normal.

I was wondering if perhaps some "is the case closed?" boolean has its condition inverted, perhaps.

Any interim solutions for how to suspend would be welcome, too, because at the moment I cannot find a way to suspend (and resume!) my laptop. So I think my only option whenever I need to travel is to either leave it running with the lid closed, or to shut it down and start it up each time.

Well, I did a whole bunch of things. I think most notably I switched to Nvidia's driver for X. I also installed macfanctld.

I wasn't taking note of exactly what I did, because I didn't expect either of those things to affect this, but it seems at some point suspend/resume started working properly again. I have no idea why. :)

Leonardo, are you using Nvidia's driver? Maybe worth a try?

I installed nvidia drivers and Ubuntu stopped booting, so I had to boot using the USB. And now the sounnd stopped working. How did you install nvidia drivers?
