Bug Description

(maybe related to #1018559)
When I click cancel on the "authenticate" dialog from system settings/network/network proxy | apply system wide, the same dialog with (maybe) some text changed is displayed over and over (up to 6 times) until it finally stays closed. See the attached screenshots (note the text in german although my UI is in english, that text sometimes is changing ....)

How to reproduce: Open SystemSettings / Network, select network proxy, change the settings (e.g. from none to manual or vice versa), click Apply systemwide, click cancel on the upcoming authentication dialog .

Changing the settings to "automatic" doesn't invoke the authentication dialog, even when selecting "Apply systemwide"

Hey Mathieu, could you look at that?

Changed in gnome-control-center (Ubuntu):
assignee: nobody → Mathieu Trudel-Lapierre (mathieu-tl)
importance: Undecided → Low

So this looks to me as though each change is applied separately, and each with its own authentication: once for the system service, and however many times for each gconf key that needs changing. There ought to be a better way; I'll look at the code to see if I can figure it out.

Changed in gnome-control-center (Ubuntu):
status: New → In Progress

This brings another question to my mind:
Why doesn't gnome-control-center the gksudo mechanism instead of its own authentication?

It's already using a "global" authentication mechanism similar to what gksudo would do.
