Bug Description

With Empathy running, I run 'empathy-accounts' from the terminal (because the accounts dialog cannot be accessed from within Empathy or from the Unity menu bar; I think that's a separate bug), I create a Facebook account and enter my username and password.

When I click 'Apply', on the terminal appears:

** (empathy-accounts:4659): CRITICAL **: identity_store_credentials_reply: assertion `priv->identity_info == NULL' failed

After trying to connect for about a minute, the message "Disconnected — Authentication failed" appears in the accounts dialog.

Also, within Empathy the notification "Facebook account requires authorisation" appears. The message is not localized to en_CA, and the icon that appears is the stock 'missing' icon.

After installing gnome-control-center-signon (which was not installed on the upgrade to 12.10 beta), the symptoms have changed slightly, but I am still unable to connect to a Facebook account. The single signon dialog within g-c-c instead gives me the error message:

An error occurred while loading the authentication page.

Once or twice when I have tried to connect, I get a message from Facebook (via a browser) stating:

An unauthorized device recently attempted to access your account, let us know if it was you.

…this leads me to think the failure to connect may have to do with Facebook's device notifications feature.

I can, this happens at random with empathy/UOA, and not just with facebook. I've seen this with every PC I've installed ubuntu on. It loved to randomly decide my accounts need authorization until I reboot or re-add the account. And sometimes re-adding the account doesn't even work. empathy/UOA is so buggy its worthless.

Hello,
I had the same problem ... or rather still have.
I was trying to see whether the Facebook web site told me something about login attempts.
I went to Settings - Security - Active Sessions ...
I found, it listes about 10 sessions ... some from half a year ago. Deleting all but the current allowede me to log in again.
I wonder whether ther was something with not properly logging out ... happens for me from time to time, if I don't switch to offline, before exiting Empathy or shutting down the PC.

Can someone confirm what I saw?
Maybe it helps to find what's happening here.
