I am having this problem with bluetooth also on my Inspiron Mini 1012 running 11.04. I checked the BIOS to make sure bluetooth was enabled there. It was. WIFI works fine. The bluetooth icon is visible but bluetooth preferences says "bluetooth is disabled" and clicking on "Turn on bluetooth" does nothing. It doesn't show up in lshw or hciconfig either.
I even upgraded the BIOS on the off chance that might fix it. No difference. I'm beginning to wonder if this computer really has bluetooth built in.
I happened to have a bluetooth USB dongle and it worked fine, but I'd much rather get the bluetooth in the netbook itself working rather than use the dongle.
This is a iM1012-3302IBU. I also ran the Dell Diagnostics from the utility partition and all the diagnostics test passed.
