Here is a patch proposal about this bug.
two solutions are proposed
- -cond.patch -> a conditional test before the call to the function raising the exception
- -try.patch -> a try-except catch the raised exception

I preferred the cond-patch since the try-except.patch may catch Exception is not supposed to, moreover it don't call the function if there is nothing to do.

Patch has been rejected upstream as they are unable to reproduce the bug.

Thank you for reporting this bug, sorry that we weren't able to provide a proper fix.

This package has been removed from the Ubuntu development release and upstream development has not been active in many years.
