Thank you for your bug. The description is not clear enough though and that bug is not really useful. Could you describe what layout you try using, what do you do exactly, what happens and what you would expect?

I use two layouts: czech and english. I added the keyboard notification applet (hope it's the right name) to the gnome-panel. The aim was to switch between these two layouts by clicking on the applet notification icon and also to know, what layout is currently active. It worked for the first day, but the other day, I wanted to change the keyboard layout from default czech to english, but nothing happened. The layout was neither changed nor the icon (notification) changed. Right clicking on the applet and selecting the desired layout from the first menu worked, but it was still not indicated by the applets icon.

One more comment. Changing the keyboard layout by left clicking on the applets icon works only once after booting up the PC. But it is still not indicated by the icon.

Apparently, I am having the same problem. See #87414.

Some extra info: there is no problem with freshly installed Herd4. After a complete update procedure the problem appears.

Same problem here together with the fact that the keyboard layout is session-wide and not per-window (as I have set in my preferences)

Workaround is to remove all keyboard related settings from gconf:
1) logout, login in text console
2) kill -1 -1, wait a moment and then kill -3 -1
3) go to .gconf directory and remove apps/gswitchit directory, remove desktop/peripherals/keyboard as well
4) sudo /etc/init.d/gdm restart
5) login in gdm
6) setup you keyboard preferences again

For some people this can work, others may need to:

7) logout, go to text console
8) restart gdm again: sudo /etc/init.d/gdm restart

This fixed the problem for me. Personally, I suspect that the real problem is the apps/gswitchit directory only and it should be removed from gconf during upgrade.

That seems to work fine now. Does somebody still get the bug?
