battery applet: preferences are screwed

Bug Description

The recent change to the battery applet's default appearance has totally screwed
the preferences up.

Go into preferences and "Show battery status" is checked even though it's not
being shown. If you uncheck it nothing happens, check it again and the battery
status does appear but the battery is entirely grey.

You need to restart the applet before any colour appears.

Yup, it's still there.

To replicate this:

1. clear your panel of all battery applets (this can even be demonstrated on a
machine without a battery)

2. Add to Panel, Battery Charge Monitor

3. It should appear with a small upright battery

4. Right-Mouse, Preferences, Appearance tab

5. note that 'Show battery status' is checked

6. uncheck it, nothing happens to the applet

7. check it, the larger battery reappears
