Bug Description

I muted the volume using the gnome volume applet by right clicking and selecting mute.
The cross showed on the icon.

However all sound was muted on my wifes account as well. Also under her account there was no cross or indication that the sound was muted.

I guess this is probably alsa's problem rather than gnome-media

Since there is only one soundcard in a computer usually, it is quite natural that all volume applets control the same device. So the bug is that the applet does not notice this.

That works fine for me, when use mute for an user it changes immediatly for the other one. What version of Ubuntu do you use?

I'm running breezy with all the latest updates.
My sound card is a SBLive Platinum [CT4760P]
gnome-applets 2.12.1-0ubuntu

I have just tried again by creating a new account to rule out problems with my wifes account but I still see the same problem.

I can get sound back from the other account by using gnome-volume-control but the applet doesn't seem able to ever get the sound unmuted.

Does this happen in Dapper as well? I just tested it and the applet's indication was just fine in the other account.
