Thanks for the report could you please do the following:

- remove all the instances of the sticky notes on the panel.
- run gdb as: gdb /usr/lib/gnome-applets/stickynotes_applet
- execute run inside gdb
- right click on the panel and add the sticky notes applet to the panel

it should crash, please save that log file and attach it to the report, thanks in advance.

Hey guys.

I've managed to get the stickynotes applet icon added to the bar, however it fails to add new notes. The way I've managed to add it was by removing the previously created $HOME/.gnome2/stickynotes_applet file. After it has been removed, I added the applet and the icon was shown there and no error displayed. However, when trying to add a new note, the error was showed again.

I did the following and got the attached output (the output was given to me when trying to add a new note):
- I installed the gnome-applet-dbg package.
- remove all the instances of the sticky notes on the panel.
- run gdb as: gdb /usr/lib/gnome-applets/stickynotes_applet
- execute run inside gdb
- right click on the panel and add the sticky notes applet to the panel
- right click on the sticky notes applet, and add a new note.

Hope this helps. Btw Pedro, if you have time to show me how to fix this, let me know since I would love to learn. Cheers.

Happened for me on a new x86 install, added sticky notes to the panel and it crashed every time I created a new note. Also worthy of note is that it will not let me change the size of the default note from 0x0 in the preferences panel.

Hi

Same problem on my Sony Vaio since Ubuntu Karmic Koala Alpha4. Impossible to add stickynotes to the panel. Would be nice to get it back soon, because I already have quite a lot of notes and I find stickynotes way better and compacter than tomboy (but that is just a personal note). I executed the test of Pedro Villavicencio above and I got the following:

I see this too. On upgrades in karmic where I had $HOME/.gnome/stickynotes_applet, then the applet does not load. If I remove the applet and the $HOME/.gnome/stickynotes_applet file, I can load the applet into the panel, but adding a new note causing a crash. If I bring up the Preferences dialog I cannot close it. I am upping the importance to 'High' since there are many duplicates and the applet is totally non-functional. Also added the 'regression-potential' tag. Please adjust as needed.

Thanks too for delurking for the advice.
I think I'll stop clogging up the thread, stay subscribed, and go for a mosey around irc for some help to get familiar with gconfig, and will only return here if/when the bug is solved in my install.
Don't you just get annoyed when a fresh install misbehaves ;-)

Hi

After yesterday's update stickynotes works again like a charm. Thanks for the fix. As a reminder: please keep stickynotes as part of the desktop applets, because they are wonderfully tiny, and thus you can put a lot of them on the desktop. Don't even think about replacing them with the clumsy tomboy!!

Keep up the good work! André

Changed in gnome-applets:
importance: Unknown → Critical
status: Unknown → Fix Released

Still crashes sometimes on login in Ubuntu 10.10.

I don't think it's a bug in stickynotes applet - some other applets crash randomly on startup as well (i.e. glipper).
