Bug Description

Whenever I plug in a camera device such as digital camera Cannon PowerShot, after mounting the disk, disk mounter applet will crash with this entry in the log:

[179390.795024] drivemount_appl[9758]: segfault at 0 ip 0000000000000000 sp 00007fff5010c568 error 14 in drivemount_applet2[400000+8000]

After that the mounted disk still working OK. And if I reload the disk mounter applet, then unmount the camera disk; again it will crash with this log entry.

[179506.376761] drivemount_appl[20606]: segfault at 0 ip 0000000000000000 sp 00007ffffb115ea8 error 14 in drivemount_applet2[400000+8000]

Has any similar bug been reported?

I am on Jaunty but I remember it was on Intrepid too.

I have the same problem, only it mounts my camera properly, but crashes when unmounting it. I'm running Jaunty with a Canon SD200 digital camera connected via USB.

I will try to get a stack trace attached within the next day.

Here's a backtrace I obtained after installing the debug packages as described here:

https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingGNOMEApplets

I'll add that the applet does also crash if it starts up and my camera is connected but unmounted and I then mount it using the applet.

Let me know if I can be of any further assistance.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. However, your crash report is either missing or challenging to deal with as a '.crash' file. Please follow these instructions to have apport report a new bug about your crash that can be dealt with by the automatic retracer.

If you are running the Ubuntu Stable Release you might need to enable apport in /etc/default/apport and restart.

If you are using Ubuntu with the Gnome desktop environment - launch nautilus and navigate to your /var/crash directory and double click on the crash report you wish to submit.

If you are using Kubuntu or Xubuntu you can file the crash using /usr/share/apport/apport-qt --crash-file=/var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash in a terminal - where _my_crash_report.crash is the crash you would like to report.
I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will automatically open a new bug report which can then dealt with more efficiently. Thanks in advance for your cooperation and understanding.

Changed in gnome-applets (Ubuntu):
assignee: nobody → Ubuntu Desktop Bugs (desktop-bugs)
importance: Undecided → Medium
status: New → Invalid

I just submitted a crash report as you described. It is quite consistent and repeatable. Hope to be fixed soon.
