Laptop "Fn" sound keys adjust wrong track

Bug Description

I like my laptop to only play sound when I am using headphones. So I mute the "master" volume, right click on "Volume Applet" > Preferences, and select "headphone". This way, I control the volume of my headphones like normal, but don't have to mute sound when headphones are not plugged in.

This works fine for the most part, but when I use my laptop "Fn" keys to adjust sound, they adjust the "master" track, instead of whatever track I have selected--making them useless to me, as I never use the "master" track.

Steps to reproduce:
1. Right click on "Volume Applet" in the panel > Preferences, select "headphone".
2. Use laptop "Fn" keys (if you have them) to adjust volume.

What happens:
The "master" track is adjusted.

What should happen:
The "headphone" track is adjusted.

that's not a gnome-volume-manager bug. the report needs to be reassigned.

affects: gnome-volume-manager (Ubuntu) → ubuntu

Do you have any idea what package this is related to? I couldn't find a "volume-applet" package. Perhaps gnome-applets? Or something entirely different?

Assigning to gnome-applets. This is most likely by design, and the future solution probably lies in the new PulseAudio based volume control + jack sensing.
