Bug Description

Waste basket vanished from status bar. I try to restore it using the Add to Panel feature, but it displays the following error:

The panel encountered a problem while loading "OAFIID:GNOME_Panel_TrashApplet"
Do you wish to delete this applet?

I answer "No", but still cannot get the waste basket to show on the status bar.

Thanks for your bug. What version of Ubuntu and architecture do you use? Could you run /usr/lib/gnome-applets/trashapplet from a comment line before trying to load it on the panel and not any message written by it?

I'm using 6.04 within VMware Workstation 5.5.2 running on a XP/SP2 host. It worked fine until I ran the latest updates as of 3/2/06 (mid-day, EST). It hasn't occurred on other machines or within VMware running on other hosts however. I'm a bit of a noob with Linux and Ubuntu, so I may not understand things as well as more experienced users. I'll see if the command-line method works, I haven't tried that yet.

ok, some interesting stuff. After leaving the machine idle, the screensaver kicked on. The screensaver default was "Random". It was on the Tetrahedron screensaver when I wiggled the mouse to wake it up. It didn't. Then it hung and finally displayed a message box that the "shell had failed to respond 6 times in the past x minutes" and to click OK to drop to the command console. I did. Then I tried to run "sudo apt-get dist-upgrade" and it said "dpkg is corrupted, run dpkg --configure -a to repair". I did, then restarted the machine and ran "sudo apt-get dist-upgrade" and it went through downloads and updates for about 30 minutes. I then restarted and the shell and waste basket appear fine now. Weird.

The bug has probably be fixed by an update, I'm closing it. Feel free to reopen if you get the issue again
