Bug Description

Binary package hint: gnome-applets

I can't delete a file in the trash using the desktop trash applet.

What I did: I downloaded an xpi file, and using the "extract here" nautilus option, extracted it, then extracted the .jar file contained within it in the same way, and the moved the entire extracted directory structure to the trash.
It wouldn't delete the files because one of the directories that was extracted from the jar had a lock icon. The owner of that directory was my user, but with the permissions to only access the files. It also gave no message that the files couldn't be deleted, which is bug
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-applets/+bug/116564/ .

I couldn't change the "folder access" of files from within trash-applet. When I tried to, it put up a dialog:

The permission could not be changed
Sorry, couldn't change the permissions of
"This_folder_name": Operation not supported by backend

The only way to delete these files was by figuring out that the trash files were kept in
~/.local/share/Trash.
(This location could be mentioned in the help. Most users wouldn't discover this on their own.)

The xpi file I tried was this one -->
http://releases.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/addons/5954
Other xpi files I tried didn't have the same problem.
(This xpi is a vietnamese language pack, but is not the one with a reported security vulnerability.)

I am using Ubuntu hardy heron 8.04

I confirm this bug. I have a folder in trash I can't delete! The current permission is "list, create/delete, noacces". If I try to change the permission I get the error message mentionned above:

Sorry, couldn't change the permissions of
"This_folder_name": Operation not supported by backend

Changing the bug status to confirmed, If more information is needed, feel free to ask.
