Bug Description
The Gnome Volume Control and the mute button on my keyboard don't work too well together.
1) When the Volume Control Applet is expanded to show the slider, pressing the mute or the volume buttons does not work
2) When in the Volume Control Center the Master and the PCM sliders are on a different setting (with the Master being at higher setting) pressing the mute button has the strangest effect: as you twice (or repeatedly) press the mute button, toggling and untoggling the sound, the PCM volume rises to match the Master volume's setting.
This means for example that if you had the PCM volume at 20% to begin with, muting the sound and unmuting it, can result in your PCM volume switch to be raised to 100%.

Thank you for your bug report. Do you still have the issue using the current versions? Does using alsamixer works correctly?
