Bug Description

to solve bug#12038, I have to restart gaim after every boot.
This causes notification-area-applet to crash, and prompts me with a 'do you
wish to inform developers' dialog.

After that crash, there is no further issue once the applet is restarted.

are you using warty or hoary ? could you provide a backtrace of the crash with
gnome-panel-dbg installed, you should have it in the details of the bug buddy
interface (the dialog displayed after the crash to send informations about the
bug to the developpers).

From the attached log:

"Debugging Information:

Backtrace was generated from '/usr/libexec/notification-area-applet'"

This file is not provided by any package, gnome-panel install a
/usr/lib/gnome-panel/notification-area-applet. Could you "dpkg -S
/usr/libexec/notification-area-applet" ?

so this file doesn't come from a package, have you install some stuff with a
make install ?

As said, it's a fresh warty -> Hoary upgrade.
I installed nothing but the java and flash firefox plugins by hand.
All other programs are from the Hoary repro's and installed with apt/synaptic

could you install libglib2.0-0-dbg libgtk2.0-0-dbg gnome-panel-dbg and try again
? I don't get how you can get a backtrace for
'/usr/libexec/notification-area-applet'" if you don't have this file
