Bug Description

I have noticed that with Helix player it has a box which says 'add universe'. Also with realplayer there's a box saying 'add multiverse'. I already have universe and multiverse added to my source.list but I still can't add these players to my system through gnome-app-install. (Idon't actually want them it was just I noticed the boxes.) I thought that there might be a specific way that it needed to be worded so clicked on the boxes. The boxes didn't disappear and I still couldn't install the software. This is only a problem in gnome-app-install, apt-get and synaptic allow you to install them.

I cannot reproduce this error here. Which version of gnome-app-install do you use?

gnome-app-install and data are both 0.1.17. This is on an amd 64 bit machine might be a 64bit problem.

Yes, you are right.

Are you sure that you cannot install them using apt? The apps are not available for your architecture at all.

Do you get the message "helix/realplayer is not available in any software channel." in the description?

Could you please provide a screenshot or copy the whole text of the description field.

Sebastian

Sorry my fault I thought I saw realplayer listed in synaptic but it actually isn't, it was realpath or something similar.

However if it is the case that these are not available why are they listed at all?

Also there is no warning that they can't be installed it just doesn't tick in the box. This just made me think it was a problem with universe or multiverse not being selected rather than the app not being available. Maybe this could be remedied with a simple message tagged to the apps unavailable in 64bit, ie 'unavailable in amd 64bit' or something similar?

Choose "add attachement" from the menu "bugs" at the right side. Thanks.

Actually there should be a short message, that is why I request the screenshot.

This is all I get in gnome-app-install for Helix Player. I know to look in synaptic, and other than misreading due to dyslexia, can find the apps I'm after. But a new comer will probably only use gnome-app-install and realplayer and helix, to a degree, are probably the only media players they'll of hear of. Some sort of notice really does need to be added.

But the fothcoming release will include some internal changes. So I would like to keep this bug open and I would be happy if you could report success or failure again.

No problems I will keep digging. I can't program but I can find bugs, to help improve my distro of choice.

I have noticed this app has been updated I would like to report a two fold point with this.

1. Although the helix and real player message is there, that the app is not available in any list. This is only displayed after you click on the install/add repository.

2. As a newish user of Linux I've heard of realplayer so straight away I go to load it and am only disappointed after I have gone through the hassle of reloading the gnome-app-install to add a repository where the app I want isn't listed. Is there not away that app's in no list could be masked out so their not shown. It would be a lot less hassle and confusion for the end user although I don't know how viable it would be programming wise.

Please file for each problem an own bug report. Otherwise it would be hard to find a bug report by its title or change the state of a bug. I would like to close the former one. :)

The problem that you discribed above is known, but we don't have a solution yet. It was re-introduced by the latest interface change. It would decrease performance to check each app before showing it. But it cannot tell you any numbers.

A dialog that informs the user about the not availablity of the app is in progress.

Perhaps we should also include the supported archs in the desktop file.

Sebastian

Seems that it was too late when I replied. We should keep this bug open.
