adobe air install erases add/remove application list

Binary package hint: gnome-app-install

After succesfully installing Adobe AIR by following the instructions provided by Adobe at:

The Add/Remove applications list empties (all available applications are erased, nothing is shown) and one must do a reinstall as suggested in:

To solve this issue you must reinstall gnome-app-install. Please do notice that this is an upstream bug that would be solved with next Adobe Air Release.

gnome-app-install 0.5.12-0ubuntu1
Ubuntu 8.10
Intel Core Duo 2 64b.

I can confirm that I have experienced the same problem. The suggestion of the reinstall mentioned at the link above solved the issue for me as well. If more information is required, let me know and I will provide it.

I also installed an application with Adobe Air, finetune, which didn't work. Ubuntu 8.04 is my distribution. Fixed the problem by reinstalling gnome-app-install, as described in the link.

This is most probably a problem with adobe air itself. I'm trying to report the issue upstream.

Which version of Adobe Air are you all using?

Sadly the bug tracker system from adobe doesn't cover air products, only flash and flex (not bad at all).

So i've had reported this issue via

So let's wait for a response from upstream about the issue. Meanwhile i've added gnome-app-install project to debug a litle more this issue from our side.

After making some tests i've found this:

After installing an Adobe Air application the /usr/share/app-install/desktop is modified, adding a .desktop file for the installed application (i'm attaching one in case it helps)

if i run from terminal gnome-app-install i've got this

 gnome-app-install

** (gnome-app-install:17028): WARNING **: return value of custom widget handler was not a GtkWidget

(it seems normal..)

After reinstalling

 sudo apt-get --reinstall install gnome-app-install

i've got this:

** (gnome-app-install:17251): WARNING **: return value of custom widget handler was not a GtkWidget
/usr/lib/python2.5/site-packages/AppInstall/AppInstall.py:1274: GtkWarning: gtk_tree_model_sort_sort: assertion `tree_model_sort->default_sort_func != NULL' failed
  item.applications.set_default_sort_func(None)

and the list is shown as usual.

Digging a bit into Adobe air, i've found some scripts that seems to create the .desktop files and process the installation process for the Air application. I'll bet that the problem lies in there.

/opt/Adobe AIR/Versions/1.0/Resources/appinstall

the postinst script maybe is related.

Seeing this problem too. Experienced on a fresh install of 8.04 with AIR 1.5 just installed.

Just found out that you have to do the "sudo apt-get --reinstall install gnome-app-install" fix after every time you update or install a new AIR app, too.

As this is not really a bug in gnome-app-install i would mark it as invalid there.
