Bug Description

The new/revisited app installer (lovely btw ! :-) installed fine the first time,
8th August, but the very next day (9th) there was an update which synpatic
couldn't apply. The error message in the terminal window was as pictured in the
attached screenshot (sorry, couldn't just copy/paste the text, didn't work :-/ ).
Apparently something to do with some conflict with some desktop file
(abiword.desktop) in /usr/share/gnome-app-install.

Hu, not 87th and 9th, but 9th and 10th, of course, sorry for the confusion
(English time stamps formats always confuse French chaps like me, I always mix
the month and the day... )

I must add that I do have Abiword installed, and that I have noticed that there
are TWO copies of abiword in the repos (one in main and one in universe) which
always require me to be careful. Once, I managed to install half of Abiword from
main, and the other half (abiword-common) from the Universe copy ! Not very tidy :-/
So this maybe confuses the gnome-app-installer in some way as well ??

Thanks for your bugreport.

This was a bad upload, sorry for the trouble. The bad package was only available
for ~24h. Please work around the situation by removing "gnome-app-install" and
"gnome-app-install-data" and then install the latest gnome-app-install.

Cheers,
 Michael

The situation is a bit unfortunate with abiword. It can be build with and
without gnome support. Breezy contains 'abiword' (only build against gtk2 and in
universe) and 'abiword-gnome' (build with gnome support and in main).

Gnome-app-install is now fixed to install 'abiword-gnome' by default.

Hmmm, might explain why Synpatic does "as if" it installed gnome-app-install,
and actually got it working again, but refuses to actually mark it as
"installed" (green icon), but either marks it as uninstalled, or "marked for
update" (yellew arrow over white background).
Anyhow, the app installer works now, so I can resume reporting more bugs on it.. ;-P

Ah ok, thanks for the shedding some light (and for fixing it as well of course ;-)

Hi Michael,

You can close this bug (one less bug to worry about ;-), as the latest
gnome-app-install (20050816) removed gnome-app-install-data, installed a fresh
copy of gnome-app-install, which put things straight it seems, all okay now :-)
