alsamixer doesn't work

gnome-alsamixer crashes at the start with errors.
Also alsamixergui won't start, it will show following mesage

Is this symptom still reproducible in 8.10 alpha?

I don't know about 8.10 alpha, my Ubuntu version is 8.04.1.

After installing SB Audigy Se soundcard, ALSA Mixer does open (with the original motherboard based sound card it didn't open), but it still gives following error message (in Finnish).

And if I try to adjust sound volume by clicking once the speaker icon on Gnome (upper right), it doesn't work. Only by double clicking the icon and changing "Master" volume works.
