Bug Description

Binary package hint: gnomad2

The current version of gnomad2 (2.9.1-1ubuntu1) depends on libmtp8 but when it is executed, it looks for libmtp.so.7. I tried rebuilding in a clean chroot for intrepid but the result is the same. Installing libmtp7 makes it possible to execute the program.

Release: intrepid
Version: 2.9.1-1ubuntu1

Can you explain what you mean by "it looks for libmtp.so.7"?
A quick check with ldd shows that gnomad2 looks indeed for libmtp.so.8.

Of course. ldd shows libmtp.so.8 but for some reason, when I execute it
from a terminal window, I see an error that indicates that gnomad2 is
trying to load libmtp.so.8. If I install the libmtp7 from a previous
version of ubuntu, then the program will execute correctly.

I tried to rebuild the package in an intrepid chroot so that there was no
chance that libmtp7 would be installed and I have attached the log of that
process. You can see that it installs libmtp8 during the build. Desipte
this, when I installed this package, I had the same problem, failure due
to a missing libmtp.so.7. The only way I could get the program to execute
was to install the older library too. This was observed on a just
upgraded intrepid system. It is a very strange problem, I would be
interested to know if it appears on other intrepid systems. I generally
use Debian so I do not have other systems to check with right now.

HTH,

Carlo

Well, it works fine on my system.
Can you perhaps explain what is the error message you get and how I could try to replicate it?
Could you paste here the version information of your libmtp package?
Do you have any similar problem using other apps that link to libmtp8 (rhythmbox, banshee, amarok, etc.)?

Looks to be fixed in karmic, at least.
