Bug Description

I've an Archos 101 G9 tablet with Android 3.2. It doesn't support USB mass storage, but supports MTP. I can list and download files using the command-line mtp-files and mtp-getfile tools. I can list but cannot download any files using gmtp.

When the download fails I see this on the console:

    Error getting file from MTP device.
    Error 1: LIBMTP_Get_File_To_File(): Could not create file.

strace -f -e open gmtp tells me it is trying to create the file in the root directory, which, obviously, is not going to work:

    [pid 17260] open("//filename.txt", O_RDWR|O_CREAT|O_TRUNC|O_LARGEFILE, 0740) = -1 EACCES (Permission denied)

Ah, I see the default download path is set to /. That's... not very clever.

summary: - gmtp cannot download files
+ gmtp bad default download path (/).
Marius Gedminas (mgedmin) wrote :

Ideally the 'Always show Download Path?' setting would be checked True, which means gmpt would present the file chooser to the user when she tries to download something.

And the default Download Path ought to be something saner, like ~/Downloads.

This bug was fixed in the package gmtp - 1.3.1-2

gmtp (1.3.1-2) unstable; urgency=low

  * Fix 0001-missing_linker_flag.patch, it wasn't actually applied when
    linked against GTK3.
  * Really build with --as-needed.
