glpi mysql setup fails

This may be a msql prob,
This is in the configuring glpi
 msql user
root
password ********
 msql username for glpi
glpi
name of database glpi
then says point browser to http://<server>/glpi/ to finish

when I hit enter it goes to the error below
I have tried installing as root and using my user name after sudo su <name>
the same result :(

Of course I can't go any further :(
