Bug Description

Upgrading from 8.10 to 9.4:
glibc update would not work using "update-manager -d".
Worked OK from the command line using apt-get dist-upgrade.

Result:
GUI update-manager disappears with no explanation.

Expected:
GUI update-manager would go all the way through or crash with an error.

Reproducible:
Every time I tried to use "update-manager -d" to upgrade to 9.4
