Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. Please try to obtain a valgrind log following the instructions at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Valgrind and attach the file to the bug report. This will greatly help us in tracking down your problem.

Do you get the issue every time? Is that specific to gdm or do you get similar using running other gtk application use sudo too?

I can confirm that it happens every time for me (Linux ubuntu 2.6.24-19-generic #1 SMP Wed Jun 18 14:43:41 UTC 2008 i686 GNU/Linux)

It does not happen with e.g. synaptic, but happens every time with gdmsetup. I am running from a root shell after running "sudo su".

Hi there,

The issue is specific to gdmsetup, and happens every single time. Valgrind attached.

could you install libglib2.0-0-dbg and get a new log?

Greetings Sebastien,

Thank you so much for all your help with this. Here's a new valgrind.log after installing libglib2.0-0-dbg.

Thanks again!
John

The new log has detailed informations now, the crash still looks weird but upstream might have better idea on the issue, I've sent it on http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=545575

upstream bug question

"g_simple_async_result_run_in_thread has "g_return_if_fail (func != NULL)"

So, this should report some spew somewhere. You could break in g_log to find
it."
