I am running Oneiric. I have limited control of my desktop.

The "pixmap" error is I think due to a lack of declared dependency on gtk2-engines-pixbuf. When I got those errors I installed it and they went away.

My guess is that this used to be pulled in by default desktop install, but no longer is.

I don't know if the assertion failure is related.
