Bug Description

I clicked on update-notifier, but my full-screen always-on-top tvtime
application was on that vt.
so I went to another vt, and clicked on update-notifier (in the notification
area) again.

It gave two ugly errors about not finding mouse/keyboard, then froze my system.

Had to do a hard reboot. At this moment I see the icon, but it won't come up if
I click it.

My guess is that update-notifier is fine, since it seems to work.
update-manager however still doesn't work.

Hm. update-manager / synaptic won't come up if I start them from the notifier /
menu.
They work from a terminal tho

Thanks for your bugreport.

This sounds like a problem with gksu. Can you please test (from the terminal):
$ gksudo /usr/sbin/synaptic
and tell me if that gives you a password prompt (and a working synaptic afterwards)?

Cheers,
 Michael

Could you tell me how I can fix this?

Just deleting the file should do the trick. I'll improve the lock-file handling
of gksu to prevent this problem in the future.
