git-buildpackage restores orig tarball incorrectly

Bug Description
git-buildpackage does not restore the orig-tarball correctly which is a pretty serious problem.
Steps to reproduce:
1) check out git.debian.
2) run git-buildpackage
The orig-tarball I get from that is 12504 bytes whereas the correct tarball is 12486 bytes.
FWIW, "pristine-tar checkout wondershaper_
gbp is version 0.6.9 on trusty
