Gimp does not respond when using Cage Transform tool

Bug Description
I'm running gimp on ubuntu 16.04 LTS. Everytime I try to use the Cage Transform tool gimp stops responding.

Same thing is happening to me. When I close the cage transform tool, the cage transform pie progress thing shows up, and when it's almost done the window turns black and white and Gimp no longer responds. I've been waiting for over 5 minutes and it still hasn't unfreezed yet.
