Hello,

Can you please add a stacktrace to your report?

To do this, launch GIMP from the command line, with the flag --stack-trace-mode=yes. Now when GIMP crashes, you'll see a question in the terminal asking you if you want to print a stack trace. Print it and attach it to your bug report.

  Thanks.

egabriele (egabriele) wrote :

Note: --stack-trace-mode=yes not recognized. I used =query. hope the same.

~$ gimp --stack-trace-mode=query

(gimp:3671): Gtk-CRITICAL **: IA__gtk_tree_model_get: assertion `GTK_IS_TREE_MODEL (tree_model)' failed
gimp: fatal error: Errore di segmentazione
gimp (pid:3671): [E]xit, [H]alt, show [S]tack trace or [P]roceed: S

What to do now?

This should be more complete information:

~$ gimp --stack-trace-mode=always

(gimp:3731): Gtk-CRITICAL **: IA__gtk_tree_model_get: assertion `GTK_IS_TREE_MODEL (tree_model)' failed
gimp: fatal error: Errore di segmentazione

(script-fu:3739): LibGimpBase-WARNING **: script-fu: gimp_wire_read(): error
gabriele@angelagabriele:~$

More note: if I overwrite the same file (even using save as option) gimp do not crashes.

Thanks, it is probably a duplicate of bug #912909.

OK,
It seems similar.

Status changed to 'Confirmed' because the bug affects multiple users.

Changed in gimp (Ubuntu):
status: New → Confirmed

I just noticed that starting gimp in a terminal with the switch "--stack-trace-mode=always" prevents the crash. "save as" saves and gimp stays on. So the command I use is: "gimp --stack-trace-mode=always &". This may or may not always work. I just made the observation. On other machines, set up differently, it may not even work at all. It's still worth a try, I guess. -- Frederic.
