Edit not uploaded when other document being edited

Binary package hint: gftp

If I right-click on a file in the right pane and select "Edit...", I can edit the file, and when I close and save the editor (gedit), then gftp should ask me if I want to upload the changed file.
This does not happen if I have another instance of gedit already open (either another window or another tab) when I start to edit the remote file. In that case, saving and closing the file I opened in gftp has no effect (I am never prompted to upload the updated file).
I am using Ubuntu Intrepid.
