Bug Description

Binary package hint: gforge

Possibly similar. I am trying to uninstall gforge-mediawiki entirely and apache2. I have poked around and tried various things with no benefit. I cannot remove gforge-mediawiki and related packages. The process fails leaving the main package yet uninstalled and also preventing me from uninstalling all of the apache2 packages. I then leave synaptic package manager (or apt-get) and return and get a broken package warning... run fix packages and it reinstalls all gforge-mediawiki packages to fix the broken remnant package. No matter what I do this repeats and as I say i cannot finish uninstalling apache as a result. My system is fully updated with no other known dysfunctionalities. This is a potential security bug.

Clarification: I am trying to remove all of apache2 and gforge. Gforge seems to be in the way... the problem seems to be in the gforge-plugin-mediawiki package as I seem to be able to remove all other gforge packages... but with the plugin left the system complains of a broken package and reinstalls all other packages of gforge.

I still cannot remove apache nor the evil-doer gforge, as stated above. This is causing me grave stress, I have lost all sense of happiness in life, as I come here to my trouble ticket page and see no changes in the form of assistance, day after day.

Quick fix:
- make an empty file /etc/init.d/apache
- uninstall gforge-plugin-mediawiki
- remove /etc/init.d/apache

The uninstall-script of the mediawiki-plugin should really be fixed!

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. Reviewing your log files attached to this bug report it seems that a package failed to install due to a segmentation fault in application being used by the package installation process. Unfortunately, this bug report isn't very useful in its current state and a crash report would be much more useful. Could you try recreating this issue by enabling apport to catch the crash report 'sudo service apport start force_start=1' and then trying to install the same package again? This process will create a new bug report so I am marking this one as Invalid. Thanks again for helping out!

Changed in gforge (Ubuntu):
status: New → Invalid
tags: added: package-install-segfault
