Bug Description
Binary package hint: germinate
It would be helpful to have a way to control the expansion of alternative dependencies ("a | b") without actually seeding packages. For example, it would be useful to be able to say "in this seed and in all seeds that inherit from it, prefer libavcodec-extra-52 over libavcodec52 if you find them as alternatives in a dependency". This came up while investigating bug 720476.

It would be useful to be able to control whether a real or a virtual package is picked in much the same way. I think this could be handled by the same putative mechanism.
