I'm treating this as a request for sponsorship in debian + sync to ubuntu.

4.0.18 has been accepted into Debian

However, it fails to build from source on any 32-bit arches
https://buildd.debian.org/status/package.php?p=genwqe-user

This is a regression, and thus is unsuitable to be included in Ubuntu until resolved.

Does genqwqe accepts external patches?

Hi Dimitry,

Yes, you can open a pull request to genwqe, but, I think that the right thing to do is limit genwqe to 64 bits arch. In fact, I don't think any other arch other than s390x and ppc64el wants to use it.

The code uses wrong return types, and e.g. quite possibly is broken
for e.g. x32 case.
This is a regression, code used to build fine everywhere.
Decisions about supporting architectures, should not be driven by lack
of commitment to fix obvious programming mistakes (type mismatches).

IBM is working on fixes which should help to get the 32-bit compile working.
We are now integrating a test-case in the travis setup, such that we can ensure that this is automatically checked once changes are committed to the git.

Still the 64-bit platforms s390x and ppc64le/ppc64 are those which are supported!

The 32-bit one should work (once it compiles again), but is not automatically tested by our internal setups and we do not have users for this, such that we agreed on not officially supporting the 32-bit platforms anymore.

This was synced to ubuntu on March the 9th. However, there are additional steps that still need to happen. The reason being, the source package got renamed when uploaded to Debian from genwqe -> genwqe-user. We have synced that on the 9th of March (and two more times by two more people, because nobody looked at the pending NEW queue, it's a bit hidden). Currently source NEW processing is done, binary NEW processing is done, there might be migration hints needed for the package to migrate. The NEW processing goes through Ubuntu Archive Admin team and takes a bit of time for new and renamed packages. Hence I will mark this as "In progress" so far.
