Bug Description

Binary package hint: gem

I am using the version of gem in karmic, amd64. When I try to open an avi file with pix_film, puredata outputs in the main window's console:

error: Gem: pix_film: Unable to open file: filename.avi

When I install the version from jaunty, and ttf-bitstream-vera from the same release, the puredata patch runs without problems.

Steps to reproduce:

* Download the puredata patch "Denno Senshi Porygon" from http://www.residuum.org/pd.html
* Create a textfile with the path to an avi video file and delimit the line with a semicolon
* Enable gem and zexy in puredata
* Open the downloaded patch and open the textfile as playlist using the UI in the patch
* Replace gem with the version from jaunty and try the step before again

I experienced a similar issue with Gem in Karmic on an amd64.
Reverting to gem_0.90.0.1-2.2_amd64.deb from the jaunty repos allowed Gem to function with avi files.
Puredata 0.41.4-1.
Can provide more info if needed.
