Bug Description

Binary package hint: gedit

gedit just exits when I try to open a zero byte(empty) file.
It's a serious bug.
It happens when I put "UHC" first in /apps/gedit-2/preferences/encodings/auto_detected.
It doesn't happen when I put "UTF8" the first in it.

The below is what happens if I type "gedit filename", where filename is a file that doesn't contain a single letter.
It's not a non-existent file, but a file that doesn't contain anything in it.

(gedit:2228): GLib-GIO-CRITICAL **: g_converter_convert: assertion `outbuf_size > 0' failed
Segmentation fault

Good catch! The issue you are reporting is an upstream one and it would be nice if somebody having it could send the bug to the developers of the software by following the instructions at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/Upstream/GNOME. If you have done so, please tell us the number of the upstream bug (or the link), so we can add a bugwatch that will inform us about its status. Thanks in advance.

I've just tested with the new version (2.30.3-0ubuntu0.1) and it looks fine.
I now have no problem with opening an empty file.
Thanks for the bug fix.

Regards,
Kevin
