Bug Description

lsb_release -rd
Description: Ubuntu karmic (development branch)
Release: 9.10

apt-cache policy gedit
gedit:
  Installed: 2.27.3-0ubuntu1
  Candidate: 2.27.3-0ubuntu1
  Version table:
 *** 2.27.3-0ubuntu1 0

        100 /var/lib/dpkg/status
======================================================

Before upgrading to Karmic last weekend (on Jaunty) I was able to save via FTP/SFTP. However, I am not able to do so any longer as gedit provides an error and does not tell me what the error is. I have to run gedit from the terminal in order to find out what the error is.

Error is as follows:

** (gedit:8384): CRITICAL **: document_saved: assertion `error->domain == G_CONVERT_ERROR' failed

I'm willing to supply whatever is necessary.

Sorry for the multiple postings. I had some first-time user problems with apport-collect.

I'm getting the same error on the latest Ubuntu 9.10. I encountered it on SFTP and on SMB shares mounted via gvfs/nautilus. But I noticed that gedit does save the changes to the document, even if it says otherwise. But it disables saving altogether for this document until you close it.

I also tried editing the same file on a SMB/SFTP share with Openoffice and it edited it without complaint. So it does not seem to be a general gvfs bug.

Same error for me:

** (gedit:5590): CRITICAL **: document_saved: assertion `error->domain == G_CONVERT_ERROR' failed

Saves the file correctly but locks the document such that no further modifications can be made. Have to close gedit and reopen to work on the document again.

Tonights update seems to have fixed it. Both a gedit and a gvfs update came through.
