gedit doesn't save last cursor postion after upgrade to ubuntu 21.10

I have been using ubuntu 21.04 where I would open a text file with cursor at the last viewed position. However post upgrade to ubuntu 21.10 the cursor sits at the top of the file every time a text file is opened.
